We are seeking skilled and experienced Underground Auto Electricians (Auto Sparkies) from international locations to join our maintenance teams operating in underground mining environments. In this role, you will maintain, repair, and optimise the electrical and electronic systems on underground mobile equipment. Successful applicants will demonstrate strong technical ability, a commitment to safety, and the resilience to work in challenging underground conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventative, corrective, and breakdown electrical maintenance on underground mobile equipment, including:
- loaders (LHDs)
- underground trucks
- drill rigs
- bolters
- utility vehicles
- auxiliary underground equipment
- Diagnose and repair electrical, electronic, CAN‑bus, and auto‑electrical faults to minimise downtime.
- Inspect, test, and replace wiring, sensors, alternators, starters, lighting systems, and control modules.
- Maintain and repair machine monitoring systems, onboard diagnostics, and safety systems.
- Service and troubleshoot air‑conditioning systems, battery systems, and charging circuits.
- Use diagnostic tools, schematics, scan equipment, and OEM software to identify and resolve issues.
- Complete accurate maintenance records and update CMMS systems.
- Work collaboratively with underground operations and mechanical teams to ensure equipment reliability.
- Follow all underground safety procedures, including isolation, tagging/locking out, gas monitoring, and emergency protocols.
- Trade qualification as an Auto Electrician , Automotive Electrical Technician , or equivalent (internationally recognised).
- 3–5 years’ experience working on heavy mobile equipment, ideally in underground or mining environments.
- Strong electrical, electronic, and diagnostic troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work safely in confined, low‑visibility, and high‑risk underground environments.
- Experience with OEM equipment such as Sandvik, Epiroc, CAT, or Atlas Copco is highly regarded.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to follow technical instructions.
- Valid passport and eligibility for visa or sponsorship pathways.
- Willingness to relocate and work in Australia (or relevant country).
