As a Technical Specialist – Surface Drilling, you'll play a critical role in maximising equipment performance, mentoring maintenance teams, and delivering technical excellence across a world-class surface drilling fleet in Papua New Guinea.
Working a 3 weeks on, 2 weeks off roster (12-hour days), you'll partner closely with customer maintenance teams to improve equipment reliability, reduce operating costs, and drive world-class operational performance.
About the Role
Reporting to the Operations Manager – PNG, you'll act as the key technical liaison between the business and the customer, providing expert support to maximise fleet availability and reliability. You'll combine your technical expertise with strong leadership and customer engagement skills to deliver exceptional outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide advanced technical support for surface drilling equipment.
- Diagnose and resolve complex hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical faults.
- Coordinate field service resources to meet customer maintenance requirements.
- Coach, mentor, and develop customer maintenance personnel through hands-on and classroom training.
- Present operational and technical performance reports to customers and senior management.
- Support maintenance planning teams to optimise preventative maintenance strategies and improve equipment reliability.
- Liaise with regional technical support teams to implement product improvements and resolve ongoing technical issues.
- Build strong relationships with customer maintenance, planning, and leadership teams to deliver outstanding service outcomes.
- Trade qualification in Heavy Duty Mechanics or a related discipline.
- Extensive experience with surface drilling equipment, including hydraulic and electrical fault finding.
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills across mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and CAN Bus systems.
- Proven experience in mining maintenance, reliability, and preventative maintenance.
- Ability to coach and mentor maintenance teams while delivering technical training.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to build relationships with customers and stakeholders.
- Experience working autonomously in remote mining environments.
- Commitment to safety and a customer-focused approach.
- Leadership or supervisory experience.
- Experience with maintenance planning systems.
- Dogging, Rigging, or Lifting & Slinging certifications.
