Open Pit Mechanic – International Applicants
We are seeking skilled and experienced Open Pit Mechanics from international locations to join our maintenance teams operating in large‑scale surface mining environments. This role is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and optimising heavy mobile equipment used in open‑pit operations. Successful applicants must demonstrate strong technical expertise, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work effectively in demanding outdoor conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventative, corrective, and breakdown maintenance on open‑pit mobile equipment, including:
- haul trucks
- wheel loaders
- excavators
- graders
- dozers
- water carts and support vehicles
- Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical faults to minimise downtime.
- Conduct inspections, lubrication, adjustments, and component replacements in high‑dust, high‑temperature, and variable weather conditions.
- Rebuild and service engines, transmissions, axles, braking systems, and drivetrains.
- Maintain cooling, fuel, and fire suppression systems on heavy mobile equipment.
- Use diagnostic tools, technical manuals, and schematics to troubleshoot issues.
- Complete accurate maintenance records and update CMMS systems.
- Work closely with production and maintenance teams to ensure equipment reliability and availability.
- Follow all open‑pit safety procedures, including isolation, equipment parking protocols, and hazard identification
Skills & Experience Required
- Trade qualification as a Diesel Mechanic , Heavy Equipment Mechanic , or equivalent (internationally recognised).
- Minimum 3–5 years’ experience working on heavy mobile equipment, ideally in open‑pit or mining environments.
- Strong mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work safely in large‑scale outdoor environments with exposure to heat, dust, and heavy traffic.
- Experience with OEM equipment such as CAT, Komatsu, Hitachi, Liebherr, or similar is highly regarded.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to follow technical instructions.
