The Role
You'll manage a senior portfolio of conveyancing matters while actively building and expanding your own client base and referral network. The firm has strong systems and a solid referral foundation, so you're not starting from zero, but you'll be expected to grow that network through genuine relationship development. You'll mentor junior fee earners, contribute to firm strategy, and position yourself as a key figure in the business's next phase.
Key Work
- Managing a substantial portfolio of high-volume residential, commercial, refinance and investor property transactions
- Actively developing client relationships, generating referrals, and building your own practice base
- Mentoring intermediate and junior solicitors and contributing to their development
- Working with leadership on business strategy, systems improvement and firm growth initiatives
- Taking on increasing responsibility for key client relationships and account management
- Processing 8-10 property transactions per week while maintaining relationship focus
- Identifying opportunities to expand relationships with existing clients and generate new referrals
- Meeting with clients and contacts to understand their broader legal and property needs
- Providing guidance and quality oversight to junior staff
- Participating in business development opportunities and exploring new market segments
- Contributing to firm culture and recruiting the right people as the practice scales
- NZ Qualified & admitted Lawyer
- 6+ years property law experience
- Proactive, self-directed approach to client relationship development and business generation
- Commercial mindset, comfortable discussing fees, value and client retention
- Hungry for growth and genuinely interested in building long-term equity in a growing firm
- Direct communicator who raises issues early and works collaboratively to resolve them
- Natural connector who enjoys building and maintaining professional relationships
