About the Role
This role offers the chance to step into a practice where you will have real ownership of your work, direct client contact, and the ability to influence how the property team develops over time.
You will manage matters independently from initial instruction through to completion, supported by experienced legal support staff. The role suits a lawyer who enjoys taking responsibility for files, building trusted client relationships, and contributing ideas beyond day-to-day legal work.
Alongside a steady flow of core conveyancing matters, you will have exposure to more complex transactions and development projects that provide ongoing technical challenge and variety.
Key Work
You will be involved in:
- Residential sales, purchases, refinancing transactions and conveyancing matters
- Commercial property acquisitions and disposals
- Commercial leasing work, including lease negotiations and documentation
- Subdivisions, unit title developments and cross-lease matters
- Large-scale development and property project work
- Private lending and secured finance transactions
- Property trusts, estate-related transfers and relationship property matters
- Direct client advice throughout the transaction lifecycle
- Current New Zealand practising certificate
- Approximately 3-5 years PQE or more in New Zealand property law
- Confidence managing files with limited supervision
- Strong drafting, technical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to build and maintain client relationships independently
- Fluency in both English and Mandarin
- A commercial and client-focused approach
- Significant autonomy over your matters and client relationships
- Access to a broad range of property work rather than a narrow specialisation
- The opportunity to contribute to team growth and future direction
- Direct exposure to decision-makers without layers of management
- Ongoing involvement in complex transactions and development projects
- Administrative support that allows you to focus on legal work
- Competitive remuneration aligned to experience and contribution
This opportunity sits within an established Auckland law practice with a strong focus on property transactions and long-term client relationships.
The team acts for a mix of private individuals, investors, developers and commercial clients across a wide range of property matters. Lawyers are encouraged to take ownership of their work, maintain direct client contact and build trusted professional relationships from an early stage.
For an experienced property lawyer seeking greater responsibility, stronger client ownership and the ability to influence the direction of a growing practice, this role offers a compelling next step.
