George Fisher Mine (GFM) is a large-scale underground zinc-lead-silver operation based in Mt Isa, QLD. GFM is one of the world's premier sediment-hosted zinc-lead-silver deposits and is a fascinating orebody from a geological and mining perspective.
With a highly complex orebody requiring advanced structural geology, geotechnical engineering and resource modelling expertise the technical challenges would be attractive challenge to a seasoned geology professional.

The role:
The Practice Lead Geology works within the Technical Services team to support the Geology Superintendent in delivering safe, practical and value-adding geological outcomes across the operation. The role provides technical leadership and strategic oversight across both Resource and Mining Geology functions, ensuring that geological practices, systems, and standards align with industry best practice and support the delivery of the mine plan and long-term business objectives.
This role is suited to a highly capable geologist who combines strong technical depth, strategic thinking, practical operational understanding and a commitment to improving both geology quality and team capability.
Ideally the position would be residentially based in Mt Isa with an attractive package on offer to attract the right person. However, consideration may be given to other arrangements pending your personal circumstances and capability.
Experience required:
- Tertiary qualification in Geology, Geoscience or related discipline.
- Professional registration or membership with a recognised geological organisation would be advantageous.
- Significant underground metalliferous mining experience across operational geology, resource geology or mine geology functions.
- Demonstrated expertise in orebody interpretation, geological modelling, resource estimation support, ore control and reconciliation.
- Strong understanding of the interaction between geology, mine design, stope performance, dilution, recovery and resource conversion.
- Senior Geology or Superintendent experience of at least 3 years or Geology Manager experience
- Permanent position working directly for Glencore.
