About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Industrial Spray Painter / Trade Assistant to join a highly skilled production team within the metal fabrication industry. This role plays a critical part in delivering high-quality finished products before dispatch.
You’ll spend the majority of your time painting, with additional duties in material preparation and general workshop support. This is a hands-on role suited to someone with strong technical skills, attention to detail, and a proactive attitude. This is a casual position with potential for permanency for the right candidate.

Role Breakdown
  • 75% Industrial Painting
  • 10% Material & Surface Preparation
  • 15% General Workshop Duties (including forklift support & assisting the production team)
Key Responsibilities
  • Industrial spray painting of small and large steel components
  • Surface preparation including grinding, sanding, cleaning, priming, and abrasive blasting
  • Application of coatings using:
    • Brush & roller
    • Airless & conventional spray
    • Industrial two-pack (2K) systems
  • Colour matching and paint mixing to specification
  • Safe setup, operation, and maintenance of spray booth & electrostatic equipment
  • Ensure coatings meet Australian Standards, drawings, and customer specifications
  • Maintain correct storage and handling of paints, solvents, and chemicals (MSDS)
  • General workshop duties, trade assistant tasks, and housekeeping
  • Contribute to 5S / lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives
Must-Have Experience
  • Industrial spray painting of steel
  • Surface preparation and priming
  • Experience with multiple paint application methods
  • Colour matching and paint mixing
  • Abrasive blasting experience
  • Strong understanding of safety, PPE, and workshop procedures
  • Full working rights in Australia
Highly Regarded
  • Cert III in Surface Preparation & Coating (or equivalent trade quals)
  • Forklift High Risk Licence
  • Experience with electrostatic paint equipment
  • Metal fabrication or heavy industry background
