You will ensure that the concrete is perfectly level, structurally sound, and finished to the exact tolerances required for subsequent flooring installations (carpet, tiling, or polished concrete).
Key Responsibilities
- Place and spread concrete delivered via truck or pump into residential footings and slabs, ensuring even distribution around waffle pods and steel mesh.
- Screed concrete to exact finished floor levels (FFL) using hand screeds, straightedges, and laser levels, ensuring proper falls for wet areas or external slabs.
- Utilise mag floats, bull floats, and walk-behind power trowels (helicopters) to achieve a smooth, flat, burnished finish on internal house slabs.
- Monitor concrete curing times closely, adjusting finishing techniques to suit Queensland’s rapid heat and humidity.
- Clean up edges, install expansion joints where required, and ensure garage rebates and step-downs are sharp and square.
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience placing and finishing residential concrete slabs.
- Proven experience operating walk-behind power trowels (helicopters) and hand-screeding tools.
- Current Construction Induction Card (White Card).
- Strong knowledge of residential concrete mixes, slump variables, and setting times.
- Physical fitness and a high tolerance for working outdoors in the QLD climate.
- Ability to work effectively during a fast-paced pour without sacrificing quality.
- An eye for detail to ensure zero high/low spots, which is critical for residential flooring warranties.
- Punctual and ready for early morning pour starts.
- Highly competitive hourly rates + travel allowances.
- Modern, reliable gear and machinery.
- Steady, ongoing residential projects with a reliable schedule.
