We are seeking an experienced Automotive Workshop Controller to lead the day‑to‑day operations of our clients high ‑volume franchise dealership workshop in Wellington.
This is a senior, hands‑on role suited to someone who thrives in a well-structured dealership environment and has proven experience managing the control and flow of a large workshop.
You will play a critical role in driving productivity, maintaining quality standards, and ensuring smooth workflow between the workshop and aftersales team.
About the Role
Reporting to the Service Manager, you will be responsible for the effective control and performance of the workshop, including:
- Allocating work across several hoists and a large team of technicians and apprentices
- Managing daily workflow, job progress, and labour efficiency
- Ensuring quality control processes are followed to minimise comebacks
- Providing strong communication and daily directions between the workshop and front desk service team.
- Supporting the Service Department to deliver exceptional customer outcomes
- Assisting in achieving daily, monthly, and annual budget and performance targets
- Maintaining compliance with dealership, manufacturer, and health & safety standards
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Proven experience as a Workshop Controller (or similar) within a franchise dealership
- Strong understanding of high‑volume dealership operations and manufacturer KPIs
- Background as a Technician or Service Advisor (highly regarded)
- Experience managing a large workshop team in a pressurised environment
- High level of computer literacy, including dealer management systems
- Excellent organisational and time‑management skills
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem‑solving abilities
- A calm, confident approach with the ability to make firm decisions
- A clean and current driver’s licence
- Key leadership role within a large, well‑established franchise dealership
