Harmony is the largest gold producer by volume in South Africa and is a significant operator of gold tailings retreatment facilities. In Papua New Guinea, Harmony owns and operates the Hidden Valley mine and owns 50% of the Tier 1 Wafi-Golpu copper-gold project. In Australia, Harmony owns the high-grade CSA copper mine in Cobar, NSW and is constructing the Eva Copper Mine in Cloncurry, QLD. These assets are supported by the Harmony Australasia regional corporate office located in Milton, Brisbane.
The Eva Copper Mine is a significant and strategically important project for Harmony marking a major milestone in the company’s copper growth strategy and its long-term commitment to Northwest Queensland. The mine will have a minimum life of 15 years and will involve mining multiple open cut pits providing copper bearing ore to a concentrator. Front-end engineering design is complete, and mine construction is expected to take up to 30 months with first production targeted for the second half of the 2028 calendar year.
About the role:
The Surveyor is a site-based role supporting surveying across a major program of works. You will work closely with the Survey Manager, Lead Surveyor, Project Manager and Engineers to provide accurate survey data for design and construction.
Key responsibilities include:
- Establishing and maintaining datums and control points.
- Checking geometry and dimensions of designs.
- Preparing, processing and interpreting survey data for Engineering and Design teams.
- Developing maps, plans and reports in line with project requirements.
- Undertaking daily surveying tasks including set out, calculations and data management.
- Maintaining survey equipment and records, following project procedures.
This role will be DIDO from local communities or FIFO from Brisbane or Townsville to our site in Cloncurry NW QLD, with local candidates highly regarded. Local employees are paid a regional allowance and a competitive salary. Roster is 14 days on, 7 days off.
Please note: this is a maximum term role aligned with the project completion and close out, anticipated to be 31 May 2028.
Experience Required:
- Diploma or Degree in Surveying.
- Minimum 5 years’ surveying experience, including at least 3 years on-site in the Construction or Resources sector - highly regarded.
- Experience leading a small team of surveyors and using a range of surveying equipment and software, including 12D and/or Civil 3D.
- Forward-looking, pragmatic decision maker with excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Strong problem-solving ability with attention to detail and ability to maintain project pace.
- Comfortable operating in high-pressure, high-stakes environments.
