About the client:

Harmony is the largest gold producer by volume in South Africa and is a significant operator of gold tailings retreatment facilities. In Papua New Guinea, Harmony owns and operates the Hidden Valley mine and owns 50% of the Tier 1 Wafi-Golpu copper-gold project. In Australia, Harmony owns the high-grade CSA copper mine in Cobar, NSW and is constructing the Eva Copper Mine in Cloncurry, QLD. These assets are supported by the Harmony Australasia regional corporate office located in Milton, Brisbane.
  
The Eva Copper Mine is a significant and strategically important project for Harmony marking a major milestone in the company’s copper growth strategy and its long-term commitment to Northwest Queensland. The mine will have a minimum life of 15 years and will involve mining multiple open cut pits providing copper bearing ore to a concentrator. Front-end engineering design is complete, and mine construction is expected to take up to 30 months with first production targeted for the second half of the 2028 calendar year.
  
About the role:
An opportunity exists for an experienced Safety Lead to take ownership of health and safety systems, services and advice on a major site-based project. This role will suit a senior safety professional capable of operating at both site and corporate interface levels, providing technical expertise and driving continuous improvement across OH&S performance.
  
This role will be DIDO from local communities or FIFO from Brisbane or Townsville to our site in Cloncurry NW QLD, with local candidates highly regarded. Local employees are paid a regional allowance and a competitive salary. Roster is 14 days on, 7 days off.
  
Please note this is a maximum term role aligned with the project completion and close out, anticipated to be 31 May 2028. However, there is a possibility the role could become a permanent position once the mine is fully operational.
  
Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of OH&S systems
  • Design and deliver site safety training and identify future training needs
  • Analyse safety trends and set lead and lag KPIs
  • Manage emergency response, evacuation procedures and drug & alcohol programs
  • Lead accident and incident investigations
  • Ensure legislative compliance and represent the business on OH&S matters
  • Report on site safety performance and key metrics
Experience Required:
  • Degree-qualified in a relevant discipline
  • 8–10 years’ OH&S experience in complex or high-risk environments
  • Strong decision-making, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to perform under pressure and maintain project momentum
