About the Role

We are seeking a Materials Planner to join our Christchurch manufacturing team based at our Hornby site. This position is full-time hours however please note it will be on a fixed term basis until late June (this is an estimation).The hours will be Monday – Friday day shifts and you will be reporting to the Materials Planning Manager – ANZ. You will play a critical role in ensuring material availability, inventory optimisation, and seamless support for production operations. You will work closely with Supply Chain, Operations, and cross‑functional teams to meet business needs while contributing to a culture of manufacturing excellence and continuous improvement. This is a dynamic environment where change is embraced and challenging the status quo is encouraged. Please note this is a complex manufacturing environment and therefore your days can be unpredictable. Duties will include:
  • Developing materials plans aligned with monthly and weekly production schedules
  • Analysing and validating MRP data to ensure accurate and timely purchasing of all BOM items
  • Purchasing direct materials to meet quality, cost, and delivery requirements
  • Identifying and implementing cost‑saving opportunities through CI initiatives and working capital optimisation
  • Monitoring supplier performance across quality, service, and delivery metrics
  • Coordinating direct materials with logistics, 3PL providers, and freight forwarding partners
  • Managing order amendments, cancellations, substitutions, and pricing data maintenance
  • Reporting monthly on materials planning performance, including inventory value, slow‑moving stock, supplier performance, and schedule misses
  • Coordinating MPI and transitional facility requirements for imported materials and ensuring compliance with all documentation and audit processes
Key Requirements & Responsibilities
  • Experience in purchasing or planning, ideally within a manufacturing environment
  • A strong background in inventory management
  • Must be able to work independently and have strong attention to detail
  • Strong attention to detail and a results‑driven approach
  • Ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the business
  • Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills
  • Comfortable with change and committed to continuous improvement
  • Advanced problem‑solving and decision‑making abilities
  • Strong computer skills, specifically in Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to manage ambiguity and work effectively in a fast‑paced environment
  • B2B exposure and experience working with suppliers
