About the client:

Rex Minerals is an Australian mining company dedicated to the development of its flagship A$1.0B Copper-Gold Hillside Project located on the Yorke Peninsula in South Australia. The project will be a significant contributor to the South Australian economy and will provide employment opportunities for locals and for those looking to move to the Yorke Peninsula.

Hillside is in a fantastic location 150km from Adelaide and is one of the largest undeveloped copper / gold projects in Australia. Stage 1 of the project is fully approved, and early-stage site access work has commenced. Further site work and awarding of contracts and building the team to execute the project will continue over 2026 with the Financial Investment Decision (FID) process due to conclude over  the next quarter .
  
The project will be operated under a contract mining model with oversight from an experienced owners’ team in Rex Minerals and the processing plant and non-processing infrastructure teams will be owner employed.

About the role:

The Manager Health and Safety will establish, lead, and assure the Health and Safety framework for the Hillside Copper Project during construction, commissioning, and transition into operations.
  
The role is accountable for:
  • Ensuring full compliance with South Australian WHS legislation and mining requirements
  • Embedding a strong, proactive safety culture across Rex Minerals, the EPCM and Mining contractors, and all project contractors
  • Preventing fatalities and high-potential incidents through effective critical risk management
  • Providing independent, executive-level assurance to the Project Director, Project Leadership Team, and Board
The role is Adelaide based initially with travel to site required. The requirement to be on site is expected to increase towards the end of the construction phase of the project and candidates with previous construction experience will be highly regarded.
  
Experience required:
  • Tertiary qualification in Work Health and Safety, Engineering, or Related technical discipline
  • Formal ICAM Lead Investigator (or equivalent)
  • Minimum 10–15 years’ senior Health and Safety leadership experience within Mining, Heavy construction or Major Infrastructure Projects
  • Demonstrated experience leading safety on large mining or infrastructure projects and managing safety in complex multi-contractor environments.
  • Proven track record in regulator engagement, major incident investigation, critical risk management
  • Experience developing and implementing project-scale Safety Management Systems
  • High integrity with the courage to challenge unsafe decisions.
  • Ability to think strategically and position the organisation to meet all HS obligations throughout the full project lifecycle.
