Stellar Recruitment is seeking an experienced Health and Safety Coordinator
to join a leading open-cut mining operation in the Hunter Valley. This is a hands-on, site-based role where you’ll play a key part in supporting managers and supervisors to implement safety systems, policies, and training initiatives that drive safe performance across the operation.
The Role
Reporting to the Health, Safety & Training Manager, you’ll act as a trusted advisor and frontline presence, providing both strategic input and practical support to ensure compliance with WHS legislation and company standards. This role will give you the chance to influence at all levels, from the pit to the boardroom, while being a visible safety leader on site.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide advice, support, and assistance to managers and supervisors in implementing safety systems and procedures.
- Drive hazard identification, risk management, and compliance with NSW WHS and mining legislation.
- Conduct inspections, audits, and incident investigations, ensuring corrective actions are implemented effectively.
- Maintain safety reporting systems and contribute to the development of hazard management and emergency response plans.
- Administer and manage drug and alcohol screening, workers’ compensation, and rehabilitation processes.
- Facilitate contractor safety forums and promote strong engagement with internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Monitor performance against key safety KPIs and contribute to continuous improvement of site safety culture.
To be successful in this role, you’ll be a proactive safety professional who thrives in a site-based environment and is comfortable balancing day-to-day fieldwork with structured reporting and governance.
Essential:
- Minimum Certificate IV in WHS .
- Certificate in Rehabilitation Coordination .
- Strong understanding of NSW statutory obligations relevant to WHS.
- Demonstrated experience in health and safety within mining, heavy industry, or large-scale construction.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Degree in Safety Science or equivalent.
- Health & Safety Auditing qualification.
- ICAM investigation experience.
