Rex Minerals is an Australian mining company dedicated to the development of its flagship A$1.0B Copper-Gold Hillside Project located on the Yorke Peninsula in South Australia. The project will be a significant contributor to the South Australian economy and will provide employment opportunities for locals and for those looking to move to the Yorke Peninsula.
Hillside is in a fantastic location 150km from Adelaide and is one of the largest undeveloped copper / gold projects in Australia. Stage 1 of the project is fully approved and early-stage site access work has commenced. Further site work and awarding of contracts and building the team to execute the project will continue over 2026 with the Financial Investment Decision (FID) process due to conclude over the next quarter .
The project will be operated under a contract mining model with oversight from an experienced owners’ team in Rex Minerals and the processing plant and non-processing infrastructure teams will be owner employed.
About the role:
The Head of Operations is a key leadership role based at site and is responsible for overseeing the successful metallurgical test work, mine planning, operational readiness, commissioning and operational phases of the mine and processing plant, including the non-processing infrastructure. This role will be responsible for managing all operational activities, including mine and processing development, production, safety, risk, compliance, environmental management and optimisation processes.
The role is also responsible for overseeing the operational management of mining services provided by the mining services contractor.
Previous experience being involved in a similar project (greenfield) would be highly valuable and would assist to ensure the success of the project.
The role would suit a candidate who is keen to live on the Yorke Peninsula and become part of the local community.
Experience required:
- Bachelor Degree in Mining Engineering, Metallurgy, Geology or related field
- 20 years’ experience in mining/minerals processing operations, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
- Proven experience in developing and leading operations at a greenfield or startup mine and/or processing plant.
- Expertise in copper-gold mining operations, including mining, metallurgy, and processing plant management. Other commodities considered
- Strong understanding of regulatory requirements, risk, health, safety, environmental standards, and industry best practices.
- Exceptional leadership skills, strategic thinker and strong financial acumen
- We also require a candidate who is an exceptional communicator who can engage and influence across all levels of an organisation from the board room to site operations and local communities
