Rex Minerals is an Australian mining company dedicated to the development of its flagship A$1.0B Copper-Gold Hillside Project located on the Yorke Peninsula in South Australia. The project will be a significant contributor to the South Australian economy and will provide employment opportunities for locals and for those looking to move to the area.
Hillside is in a fantastic location 150km from Adelaide and is one of the largest undeveloped copper / gold projects in Australia. Stage 1 of the project is fully approved and early-stage site access work, awarding of contracts and building the team to execute the project has commenced.
About the role:
The Head of Health, Safety, Environment and Community is a broad position that will require the candidate to get across all those key areas. The PEPR (program for Environmental Protection and Rehabilitation) alone has over 700 commitments, and the company has committed itself to meeting all legislative and regulatory requirements.
The role will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies and policies across the HSEC portfolio. You will manage a small team and will be a key interface between the community, regulators, government and a range of other stakeholders.
We are seeking a candidate who is keen to be a part of the Yorke Peninsula community and who can be site based (where the action is) more often than not.
Experience required:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Environment, Safety or relevant discipline
- 15+ years’ experience in senior health, safety, environment and community roles with experience in mining
- Experience developing health, safety, environment and community strategies and policies and effectively implementing.
- Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the regulatory authorising and operating environment relating to the mining industry in South Australia and more broadly, including political context, government processes, interpreting and applying legislation.
- Extensive experience in stakeholder and community engagement, regulation, conflict resolution, risk communication and social impact assessment.
- Demonstrated experience in project management, including planning, implementation, stakeholder engagement and working with government agencies.
- Experience and knowledge of risk management principles and application as it applies to all aspects of HSEC and broader mining operations.
- Permanent position with a growing mining company on a greenfield project that is fully permitted and is supported by the local community.

- Relocation assistance available to the Yorke Peninsula area of South Australia. The closest town is Ardrossan which is just a few minutes away from the project’s location, however other locations can be considered. We are also open to a transition arrangement ex Adelaide.
