About the Client:

MACH Energy operates a modern, low-cost coal mining operation in the Hunter Valley, supported by a low strip ratio, an efficient mining fleet, and modern fixed plant and infrastructure. The business continues to expand year on year, underpinned by significant infrastructure investment and a clear strategic growth pathway.
  
Mount Pleasant Operation is currently undergoing major infrastructure upgrades, with substantial capital commitments in place. The operation is supported by leading contractors who play a critical role in maintaining performance and efficiency. With tenure extending well into the future, the site offers stability, certainty and strong future prospects.

About the Role:

The Greenhouse Gas Abatement Specialist leads the implementation of the Mount Pleasant Operation’s Greenhouse Gas Abatement Action Plan, ensuring MACH complies with emerging regulatory requirements and delivers practical, reasonable, and feasible mitigation measures.
  
The role provides governance, project management, and technical oversight across all decarbonisation initiatives, ensuring alignment with operational, commercial, and strategic objectives.

The position can be based in the Newcastle Corporate Office with regular travel to site required, OR 100% site based at Mount Pleasant Operation.

Examples of type of work you would be responsible for:
  • Lead the implementation of the GHG Abatement Evaluation and Three-Year Action Plan.
  • Lead the revision and review of the GHG sections and the Air Quality and Greenhouse Gas Management Plan and the Three-Year Action Plan
  • Manage multiple concurrent abatement projects, including trials, feasibility studies, and technology assessments.
  • Oversee diesel consumption and fugitive gas data collection programs.
  • Support operational efficiency initiatives, including RFID and fleet optimisation opportunities.
  • Assess alternative fuels, hybrid/electric equipment, and zero-emission technologies for possible site application.
  • Internal and external stakeholder engagement and preparing high level reports for senior leadership and external regulatory bodies.
To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in engineering, environmental science, mining, or related discipline; or equivalent industry experience
  • 5+ years’ experience in mining, engineering, environmental management, or operational project delivery
  • Demonstrated experience managing multi‑disciplinary projects.
  • Exposure to decarbonisation, energy efficiency, or emissions reduction initiatives (preferred but not essential).
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, including influencing and stakeholder engagement.
  • Ability to interpret technical information and translate it into practical operational actions.
