About the Role:
As a Financial Accountant/Manager, you’ll play a key role in managing financial reporting and analysis within a dynamic contracting environment. You’ll ensure accurate and timely financial information is delivered to support project delivery, commercial decisions, and overall business performance.
   
Key Responsibilities:
  • Preparation and reporting of monthly and annual financial results,
  • Balance Sheet reconciliations to support monthly management accounts,
  • Preparation of annual year-end financial pack for external accountants,
  • Contract retention reconciliation,
  • Liaise with project managers and QS team to monitor job costing, WIP, and margins,
  • Administer weekly timesheet collation, validation, and approvals for staff
  • Weekly Payroll processing and administration
  • Preparation and filing of all statutory returns, i.e. GST, PAYE and Companies Office Registrations    
You’ll be joining a mid-sized, growing business conveniently situated near Christchurch CBD. In our welcoming back-office setting, you’ll benefit from support provided by experienced industry professionals and management.
   
Skills and Experience:
  • Degree-qualified in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline, with proven experience in financial or management accounting (construction/contracting industry – an advantage)
  • Proficient in preparing financial statements and management accounts for SMEs.
  • Strong understanding of NZ accounting standards, payroll processing, and employment legislation.
  • Commercially minded with insight into risk management, contracting, and business cash flows.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, negotiation, and professional communication skills.
  • Proactive, adaptable, and solutions-focused with high attention to detail.
  • Strong IT skills, including MS Excel, with experience in simPRO and Xero being advantageous.
