Fabrication Team Leader

We are looking for a Fabrication Team Leader to join our team based in Islington, Christchurch. You will be responsible for leading a small team of 4 people within the fabrication team in the factory and will be heavily involved in all team operations. You will work closely with many members of the team including the Fabrication Line Manager, Site Manager and other team Leaders. You must have proven knowledge and experience in light fabrication including stainless steel, and you must be a key advocate for all things Health and Safety. We are looking for somebody who has proven experience in leading a team in a manufacturing or engineering environment. As this is a critical role within the business, we are looking for somebody to join us on a long-term basis who wants to really integrate into the team.
Please note that this role will involve being on the tools 50% of the time as well as being a leader for the team. This role is perfect if you want a mix of both! The hours for this role are generally Monday to Friday 7:00am – 03:30pm, however these hours are flexible. We are looking for a superstar who is enthusiastic when it comes to continuous improvement as this is a main focus in this business. Your duties will include:
- Leading the fabrication team to achieve production targets and goals
- Working alongside the Fabrication Line Manager on all site operations
- Offering technical advice to the team and particularly the more junior team members
- This is “on the tools” so you must have proven experience in light fabrication including TIG welding and stainless sheet metal
- Leading the team and inspiring their motivation and attitude
- Have a strong focus on continuous improvement within the team and the business as a whole
- Completing reporting and regular meetings and support to your small team
- Ensure Health and Safety procedures are followed and investigate any incidents
- Coaching and developing the team members
- 10 years’ experience in a fabrication environment is preferable (the amount of experience is negotiable)
- You must have knowledge and experience with stainless sheet metal fabrication
- Carbon steel fabrication experience is advantageous
- Demonstrated strong leadership skills
- Effective communication skills and ability to be a decision-maker
- Strong IT skills – you will be working on computers daily
- Excellent understanding of Health & Safety procedures
- Excellent understanding and proven implementation of continuous improvement processes
