This pivotal role ensures robust end-to-end contract management—from tender through to close-out—while mitigating commercial risk and enabling major projects to be delivered safely, on time, and within budget.
You will oversee complex contract portfolios covering high-value capital expansions, engineering and design, civil works, plant manufacturing, shutdown services, tyres, and plant hire, and play a critical role in strengthening supplier partnerships and procurement performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Contract Strategy & Development
- Define contracting approaches across project phases (EPC, EPCM, Design-Build, Lump Sum, Cost-Reimbursable)
- Develop commercial risk allocation strategies and matrices
- Establish standard terms, conditions, and governance frameworks
- Coordinate with Legal to ensure contract templates align with jurisdictional requirements
- Lead negotiations of key commercial terms including scope, variations, payment milestones, guarantees, and damages
- Secure bonds, guarantees, and insurance requirements
- Manage internal approvals, risk reviews, and execution protocols
- Develop strategic supplier relationships and sourcing strategies
- Post-Award Contract Administration
- Prepare executive-level commercial submissions and recommendations
- Ensure compliance with internal policy, audit standards, and regulatory obligations
- Deliver KPI dashboards covering cost, schedule, risk, and variations
- Support internal and external audits
- Stakeholder Leadership across Projects, Legal, Finance, Engineering, and suppliers
- Mentor contract specialists and promote best practice
- Foster a collaborative “one-team” delivery culture
- Minimum 10 years’ contract management experience in mining (or related heavy industry)
- Strong understanding of contract law, procurement frameworks, and commercial risk
- Proven negotiation and stakeholder engagement capability
- Ability to manage multiple projects in fast-paced environments
- Proficiency in contract systems (e.g., SAP, Coupa)
- Strong organisational, time management, and delegation skills
- Degree in Engineering, Business, or related discipline
- Professional certification in procurement or contract management
- Demonstrated ability to analyse complex agreements and identify risk/opportunity
