Project Director / Contracts Manager Role

Major Infrastructure Project in Hawke’s Bay

We’re seeking a commercially strong Contracts Manager / Project Director to lead the delivery of a large, high-value infrastructure package in Hawke’s Bay.
This role is focused on contract performance, margin protection, programme oversight and senior stakeholder management. Site safety is managed operationally by the delivery teams — your role is to ensure the contract performs and the numbers stack up.

We’re Open To
  • A senior Electrical or Mechanical leader who has delivered large, high-value services packages and understands complex contractual environments
or
  • A Project Manager / Senior PM from a main contractor with proven end-to-end contract delivery experience on major builds



Commercial Ownership
  • Full P&L responsibility
  • Lead financial forecasting and cost control
  • Manage variations, extensions of time and contractual claims
  • Protect margin and identify commercial opportunities
Contract & Programme Oversight
  • Ensure delivery aligns with contract conditions
  • Monitor programme performance and key milestones
  • Identify commercial risk early and implement mitigation strategies
Reporting & Governance
  • Clear, structured monthly reporting
  • Maintain visibility across budget, labour productivity and procurement
  • Ensure claims are prepared accurately and submitted on time
Leadership
  • Lead Project Managers and commercial teams
  • Maintain accountability across delivery functions
  • Drive performance standards and contractual discipline
Client Management
  • Senior interface with client representatives
  • Manage commercial discussions professionally and strategically
  • Maintain strong working relationships while protecting contractual position
What You’ll Bring
  • Strong commercial and contractual acumen
  • Experience running sizeable project budgets
  • Confidence managing claims, risk and programme at a senior level
  • Clear, composed leadership style
  • Ability to balance client relationships with margin protection
Flexibility The role is based in Hawke’s Bay. We are open to a 3-day-per-week on-site presence for the right candidate, with flexibility built around project requirements.
