This is far from a traditional back-office CFO role. It’s a hands-on, operational opportunity where the CEO is seeking a commercially astute and strategically minded financial leader. The successful candidate will not only ensure the business hits its numbers, but also instil discipline and work closely with the team to deliver on ambitious growth objectives.

About the Role
As CFO, you will act as the CEO’s commercial co-pilot, driving operational and financial discipline across all business units. This role calls for a proactive leader who can cultivate strong client relationships, work closely with the CEO, and strategically accelerate business growth. The ideal candidate will be able to engage directly with customers, going beyond traditional executive support to actively build and maintain meaningful client connections. You will:
- Lead financial management and strategy, capital management, and commercial governance across the organisation.
- Partner closely with operational leaders, bringing financial insight to operational strategy.
- Navigate construction contracts, manage commercial risk, and contribute to dispute resolution where required.
- Mentor and lead a capable finance team, including the Financial Controller, accountants, and offshore support, across financial reporting, cashflow management, cost control, month-end processes, budgeting, forecasting, AP, AR, and payroll.
- Ensure the business is hitting financial and operational targets, instilling discipline and rigour in reporting, with clear visibility of budgets and forecasts, ROI, sales/marketing analysis, and lead/lag metrics.
- Partner on strategy with the CEO, supporting long-term growth initiatives.
- Drive digital transformation, AI integration, and process improvement initiatives.
You are not just a numbers person, you are a hands-on, operationally savvy, commercially minded leader who can balance strategy with execution. You bring:
- CA/CPA (or equivalent) with tertiary qualifications in commerce, accounting, or business. MBA or equivalent strategic training advantageous.
- Proven experience in senior finance/operational leadership roles in construction, manufacturing, or mining, ideally with a “blue-collar” understanding.
- Strong commercial acumen with experience analysing operational performance and holding leaders accountable.
- A track record of instilling financial discipline and operational rigour in growing businesses.
- Strategic thinker with strong presence and credibility; someone who can lead conversations with authority and build trust at both executive and operational levels to drive action.
